Max and Moritz in NYC

location:

At 350 Grand Street Between Ludlow and Essex

Thursday, October 28, 2010
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Towards its mission of fostering international collaborations of the highest caliber, the New York Opera Society is commissioning a chamber opera for children from renowned Norwegian composer Gisle Kverndokk (NYOS 2010-2011 Composer-in-Residence) and celebrated librettist Øystein Wiik called Max and Moritz. Adapted from the seminal children's book "Eine Bubengeschichte in sieben Streichen" by Wilhelm Busch, the story is about two small boys; two rascals that play bad tricks on the people in their little village; the old widow and her chicken, the tailor, the organist, the uncle and the baker. The story ends with the two boys grained together with the corn in the mill, ending up as food for the ducks. This is a grotesque, moral fairytale in the style of the brothers Grimm and of Roald Dahl and appeals to adults and children alike.
